Hardanger has a cultural history stretching back to the stone age, leaving us little more than rock carvings and simple cave shelters to see, but the recent centuries shows the development from farmland to an industrial society.

Due to the abundant supply of hydro electric power, Hardanger was a key location during the industrial revolution in Norway over a century ago. 

Today you'll find a fascinating mixture of traditional fruit farms and the historic industrial settlements located in the striking contrast of the wild mountains surrounding it.
